| Welcome to Southern Beagles and Rabbits Welcome to Southern Beagles and Rabbits the home of some of the best Blackcreek beagles around. Hunting rabbits with beagles is a time-honored tradition that is both relaxing and exciting which is shared among our family and friends. Our beagles on average are 13 inches tall, but range from 12 to 14 inches and run a medium to upper medium speed. Even though we breed our hounds to run rabbits, many pups are purchased for house pets. We do not breed beagles that are not field tested and proven. Our pups start early and come out strong. We will not under any circumstance knowingly misrepresent any started beagle or pup. All running/started beagles will be shown in the field. As of 2008 my daughter and I are using the kennel name M And S (Michael and Shianne) on all of our new beagles. The following is our breeding goals here at Southern Beagles and Rabbits: Beagles that hustle and have the desire to jump and run rabbits. Beagles with excellent line control. Beagles that use there nose and mouth correctly. Beagles that are check artist. Beagles that have good stamina and are tough. Beagles with good conformation and Brains. Beagles that run a medium to upper medium speed. Beagles that are friendly and easy to handle. I do not believe speed is the key to running a rabbit the right way. A rabbit doesn’t have to be ran 100 miles per hour to bring him back to the gun. A hunters flexibility is greatly increased when the beagle runs a rabbit smoothly and at a steady pace. Don’t get me wrong; I am not discrediting fast speed hounds. I have hunted with both, and with my experience, I prefer and recommend medium to medium-fast beagles. I have learned by observing medium and fast speed hounds that rabbits react differently to different speed hounds. Rabbits with less pressure (but with steady pressure) from medium speed dogs will turn a circle much quicker, thus turning the rabbit back to the gun at a faster rate. A faster speed dog will add more pressure, pushing the rabbit further out before making the circle back to the gun. Therefore, I honestly believe smooth, constant pressure is just as, if not more, effective then speed. But everyone is different and likes different types of beagles. We update our website regularly (Usually weekly), so check back with us often. Thank you for taking the time to view our site and come again!
